Last month, I watched a Fortune 100 executive team celebrate the launch of their $18.7 million "AI-driven decision platform."

The C-suite was ecstatic. The consultants were exchanging high-fives. The press release touted "revolutionary neural capabilities" and "cognitive automation frameworks."

What did this $18.7 million actually buy?

A PowerPoint template that pulls data from Excel and a ChatGPT subscription.

This isn't an isolated incident. According to Gartner, companies will waste over $96 billion on AI initiatives in 2025 that deliver no measurable value. Much of this spending falls under the impressive-sounding category of "AI-driven decision making."
